On Health, Healing, and sickness... Part 1
Sickness is all over this time of year.
I'm not talking cancer sickness or your debilitating illness.
I am talking about FLU and COLD season!
I have spent several hours the past couple weeks talking with friends and acquaintances about things that have helped me along the way. My immune system is and can be in a quick compromised state, add the fact that sickness in my body can cause my little healthy cells to fight that and miss the silent cancer cells. It's complicated. So we bust our butt to stay strong and healthy here. Not that we don't get sick but when my body is sick I help it in the best ways that I can.
I share so much here about how God is working in my life and a huge part of my story is his victory over the healing in my body. With that comes a long and complicated journey of many doctors appointments, lots of blood test, saliva tests, DNA tests, and immune system research.
Here are my disclaimers:
1. I have done a TON of research myself but none of the steps I have taken have been without medical guidance and direction. Find yourself a team that can help.
2. I am not going to endorse any brand, system, or specific item. I will share instead general ideas and ways you can do the research or follow up with your primary care people yourself.
3. Most of my opinions and routines come from a combined approach to complementary and conventional medicine. In no way is one more effective without the other, but I will go to the ends of the earth sharing why BOTH have to be a part of your healing and health journey.
4. If you ever want to talk more and ask questions, perhaps you would like some direction in finding someone professional to help you? I am SO available to talk about that!
email me: jwdennstaedt@gmail.com
5. Everyone has opinions. Everyone does different things they swear by. I love that. If it works, go for it. What I have learned, are things that I do for my own health which looks incredibly different to your health. So as much as I want to help you, I know that this seems opinion based too. Give me grace as I share vulnerability in many ways how I trust this part of my journey still does not outweigh God's miraculous healing and intervention in our lives. To be healthy and take care of our bodies is essential. Even more so important though, is not fearing death and his path for our lives.
6. There is something new being learned everyday. Stay open to learning and changing your ways. I'm sure as I share over time some of my own experiences will change.
Be courageous and explore the path less traveled.
Is it our human nature to just settle and trust the majority?
I still have yet to figure out why.
It seems to me that there are far less individuals advocating for themselves than ones who just do what the status quo says. Research is every changing. Miraculous medical advancements are happening in our time everyday. Do not stop learning and advocating. Find someone who will go to the ends of the earth doing this for and with you. Pray that God will provide this if you are feeling hopeless here.
There are three kinds of health professionals
1. the ones who have done their thing and will keep doing their thing
2. the ones who are doing their thing and willing to learn and try all the new things
3. the one who is doing all the new things because the old things aren't working
What is your trusted physician like? I have seen what feels like every specialist available and I have met every type. You have to decide what best fits your personality. Partner with them. Ask them questions. If you were to be interviewing for a job you would ask expectations and goals, your job is your life here.
SO my first advice on Heath and Healing.
Find an functional medicine MD, DO, OR ND who is willing and able to work with you to change and support your internal environment in your day to day sickness and your long term list too. Be your own advocate.
